April the giraffe has finally given birth to another adorable calf – and the whole thing was streamed to a huge live global audience.
The animal whipped the world up into a frenzy of excitement in 2017 with the news of her impending arrival – and a very lengthy labour.
The 17-year-old resident at Animal Adventure Park, New York, was thrown into the spotlight with the birth of her fourth calf, Tajiri.
She kept her fans on the edge of their seats as they repeatedly tuned into the feed over a seven week period from February to April, hoping to catch a glimpse of the birth.
Around 1.2 million viewers watched the live feed of Tajiri’s entrance into the world – and now the mum-of-five has done it again.
More than 300,000 people tuned in to watch the big moment around 12.45pm yesterday, Metro reports.
Animal Park owner Jordan Patch said: “Success! With an average 15-month gestation, we are thankful to have a healthy calf on the ground, nursing and bonding with mum.
“With wild giraffe numbers plummeting annually, every calf born counts.”
Park officials say the newborn was on its feet by 1.27pm and was feeding by 1.51 pm.
Heartwarming footage of the live stream shows the adorable calf attempting to stand up as April licks it clean.
The average length of a giraffe pregnancy is 13 to 15 months.
The calf’s dad is Oliver, known as Ollie, who is seven years old and also father to Tajiri.
