A famous Benidorm bar hugely popular with Brit tourists is reportedly to call last orders over a bust-up with angry residents.
The Tiki Beach bar is one of Benidorm’s most famous and liveliest pubs on the Costa Blanca and attracts thousands of UK holidaymakers every year.
But it will close its doors soon after an order was approved by the Spanish Supreme Court, according to news source Diario Informacion .
The bar, which takes pride of place on the Levante Beach, is on the top of the tourist pub crawl list as revellers flock there.
But it has been the subject of a string of complaints from neighbours in the Santa Margarita building over the years, including loud music and boozy tourists partying on the beach until the early hours.
And it is now said the Spanish court has ruled in favour of the residents and ordered the closure of the pub in a decision that can’t be appealed.
The news has shocked British tourists who say Tiki Beach is the best bar in Benidorm.
Alan Gray, 57, of Northumberland, says Benidorm won’t be the same without it.
Alan told ChronicleLive: “I can’t believe it that Tiki Beach is closing.
“I have been going for the past 13 years with a group of lads for St Paddy’s Day.
“We always end up at Tiki Beach because the atmosphere is great, the drinks are reasonably priced and the music is good.
“And, of course, don’t forget the vistas – it looks out onto Levante Beach and it’s just a great place to have a few beers.
“OK there is a party atmosphere that spills out onto the promenade but I have never seen any trouble there in all the years I’ve been going, just lots of holidaymakers having loads of fun.
“In fact, I’m going to Benidorm with another set of friends next week, I hope it hasn’t closed by then.”
Karen Hamilton, of Whitley Bay, added: “This is such a shame for Benidorm holidaymakers. It always has a great party atmosphere and a great meeting spot.
“Tiki Beach is such an integral part of a Benidorm holiday. Thousands of Geordies will be gutted.”
Kirsha Knowles, 42, of Newcastle, said: “I am absolutely devastated that it is closing. Tiki Beach is the heart of a Benidorm holiday.
“I’ve been going there regularly with my family and with the girls for the past ten years or more. There is always a great atmosphere.
“Benidorm won’t be the same without it. I’m really gutted, honestly I am.”
In April 2016, the Provincial Court also ordered the closure but the owners of the bar appealed to the Supreme Court.
Now, the ruling has gone in favour of the neighbours for a second time.
But Tiki fans and regulars have blasted the decision, saying holidays in Benidorm will never be the same.
Tom Giddings wrote on Facebook : “Best bar in Benidorm, what a shame if it shuts down.”
And Denis Mcdermott posted: “Such a sad day when it closes.”
Others were more understanding: “Shame. This bar was always buzzing.. Though I can appreciate how the residents feel. Very noisy!”
Tiki Beach has been approached for for comment.
