An osprey put on a dramatic display while catching himself a fresh fish dinner after making a splash in the ocean.
Photographs taken by a keen birdwatcher show the brown and white feathered bird as it flies into the air with the blue coral reef fish.
Michiel Oversteegen, 50, captured the moment the osprey grabbed the fish while driving alongside Arashi Beach, Aruba, on January 27.
Pictures taken by the commercial engineer from The Netherlands show the bird directly looking at the lens as he flies away from the ocean while firmly gripping the fish.
Mr Oversteegen said: “While driving along the shoreline I noticed the Osprey making a splash in the ocean.
“I quickly parked my car and grabbed my camera.
“The moment I stepped outside, the osprey flew over and he was still struggling with the non-cooperating fish.
“Only later I realised this was the first time I saw an osprey with a coral reef fish.
“Aruba is known for its beautiful powder fine white beaches, calm clear water, beautiful sunny weather almost every day and spectacular sunsets.
“The perfect ingredients for what are Aruba’s main economic source, tourism.
“Consequently, the image many people have of Aruba – either if they visited Aruba or not – are the blue waters, the luxurious shopping centres, fine restaurants and swinging nightlife.
“This was exactly the same image I had when I moved from the Netherlands to Aruba in the mid 90s.”
